This is the first in a series of articles about podcasting. Here, I explain, in seven reasons, why I believe, for the internet marketer, that podcasting is a better choice than blogging.
Both blogs and podcasts have been around for a number of years. Recent statistics show that the number of people listening to and downloading podcasts has grown significantly recently. There are a number of reasons for this increase in growth and in this article I will explain 7 reasons why podcasting is better than blogging.
Podcasting Develops Trust Faster than Blogging
Unless you are an excellent writer, a blog can feel very impersonal, but a podcast on the other hand, always creates a feeling of closeness and intimacy. With a podcast the listener is hearing directly from a real person as they give their opinions on a subject. This will always create a better connection than can be created with a blog post. Your audience wants to feel a strong connection to you and this is one of the key reasons that podcasts are better than blogs.
People Can Do Other Things While Listening to Podcasts
Today, people are very busy and on the move. It’s not possible to read a blog post as you drive, but you can be anywhere and doing pretty much anything and still be able to listen to a podcast.
Even with all of the new distracted driving rules, you can still listen to a podcast in your car. Listening to your favourite podcast while you workout at the gym.
If you download your podcasts on your smartphone, you are good to go most anywhere. You don’t even need an Internet connection to listen to your favourite podcast.
Podcasts Let Your Personality Shine Through
There are ways that you can convey part of your personality using a blog, but there is nothing like using your voice to show it. If you are totally passionate about the subject of your podcast, your listeners will easily detect this in your voice. Be sure to act natural when you are recording your podcasts. Your audience will truly appreciate your honesty.
You Can Turn Your Podcasts into Content for Other Uses
Once you have created a podcast it can easily be converted into other media types. You can create text based content such as ebooks and online courses from your podcasts. You can convert your podcasts into videos and publish them on YouTube to help reach more people.
People Generally Find It Easier to Listen to Podcasts
You can listen to a podcast on any a device that will play MP3 files, such as your smart phone, tablet or car audio system. Blog posts on the other hand require you to concentrate on a mobile device screen or a computer screen and this just isn’t always convenient.
You Can Create and Market Podcasts Easily
Like the best blog posts, the best podcasts require organization and planning. However, it can often often take much less time and effort to create a high value podcast than it does to write a long, detailed blog post. Podcasts allow for more of a feeling of spontaneity than do blog posts.
Expert Interviews Are Much Easier
Expanding your podcasting network by interviewing experts in your niche is the last of the 7 reasons why podcasting is better than blogging. All you need to do is to prepare a list of questions that your expert agrees to, and then schedule the call using a tool like Skype or Zoom. Just be sure to remember to record the conversation. To write a blog post about an interview requires all of the above, then additional time to write the post. Podcasts win hands down.
